Recommended Use of Certificate

We recommend using the SSL certificate for projects which emphasise a quickly-gained certificate, effectiveness of security and a good price. It can be used in almost any area requiring SSL communication, mainly in internet solutions, mail server security or simple web applications or websites.
If user accessibility and higher guarantee is emphasised, we recommend using an EV certificate (Extended Validation) or an OV certificate (Organization Validation).

Support for Securing More Domains

An SSL certificate secures all sub-domains of the main domain stated in the certificate and a second-grade domain. While the certificate is valid the main domain cannot be changed and the domain is stated with a star: * The main second-grade domain will also be noted in the certificate.

Manner of Verification

The process of issuing an SSL certificate consists of sending an email to a pre-selected email domain with an SSL certificate request (admin, administrator, hostmaster, webmaster, postmaster), or to an email address of the domain owner (taken from the information in domain register). In the received email message, it is enough to agree to all information about the required SSL certificate and the verification process is completed with the subsequent issue of an SSL certificate, which is sent to the technical contact of the applicant.

Time of Certificate Issue

If the correct CSR file is included in the order and a payment is made online (by a payment card), the issue of the SSL certificate is done automatically within minutes.

Warning: On rare occasions, there can be a delay during certificate issue, which is most often caused by one of these reasons:

  • For securiry reasons, the authority is conducting a random check of certificates which are being verified, which can delay the issue of DV certificates until the check has been completed.
  • The domain for which the certificate has been ordered includes a forbidden word (e.g. bank), a phrase or a trademark name (e.g. Facebook; names of big companies or corporations). If this is the case, the authority might conduct an additional verification of the applicant or refuse the certificate order.
  • It is not possible to automatically find out the domain owner's email address, which is used to send the authority's verification email.

If the certificate is not issued within the standard period given, do not hesitate to contact our Customer Support, who will help you solve the problem.

Certificate validity

An SSL certificate is valid from the day its verification is completed and the certificate is issued. From this day, the certificate is valid for the number of years chosen when ordering the SSL certificate.

Certificate reissue

If necessary, you can ask for certificate reissue any time FOR FREE (e.g. because a private key has been deleted). For successful reissue, a new CSR file with the same data as in the original order is necessary.

Certificate renewal (RENEW)

An SSL certificate can be renewed 90 days before the end of its validity. No time for which the certificate is valid will be lost: this time will be added on to the renewed certificate and what is more, unused days get rounded up to complete months. Adding the remaining time can be done only when a renewal is ordered and paid at least 17 days before it expires.

Display of the Certificate Seal

Information about security on web pages can be supported by displaying the seal which is generated by the Thawte certification authority. It is a dynamic image thanks to which a user recognizes straightaway that a website is secured with an SSL certificate. By clicking the seal you can verify all information about the certification authority and the validity of the SSL certificate. It is possible to choose one of three graphic versions of the seal. We strongly recommend using the seal on your website.
