CAB Forum (Certification Authority Browser Forum)

Certification Authority Browser Forum (CA/Browser Forum) is a voluntary association for leading certification authorities (CAs) and developers of Internet browsers and other Internet applications. The forum’s goal is to publish standards and rules for issuing and managing SSL certificates, which will be followed by trusted authorities.

CA/Browser Forum members worked closely together to define the rules for Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates, and a new proposal for "Basic Requirements for Issuing and Managing Publicly Trusted Certificates" was issued in 2011. The goal is for all third-party browsers and software to work together seamlessly. As of 2012, all accredited certification authorities who want to have their root certificate trusted must meet these basic requirements.

CAB Forum Documents

Documents created by the CA/Browser forum are available on the CAB forum website.
For example, you can find the "EV SSL Certificate Guidelines" or the latest versions of the "Baseline Requirements for the Issuance and Management of Publicly-Trusted Certificates".
